- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Health Alert Network (HAN) Health Advisory to share information about identifying locally acquired malaria cases in two states, Florida and Texas. Four cases within close geographic proximity in Florida have been identified, and active surveillance for additional cases is ongoing. Malaria is a serious and potentially fatal disease transmitted through the bite of an infective female anopheline mosquito. CDC Health Alert Network, June 26, 2023
